Feel ALL the Emotions, Not the Camera

The Process

I’m a Boston family photographer who operates without sets, props, posing, or any fuss. I help create a comfortable and judgment-free zone where you can be your perfectly imperfect selves. All you need to do is open the front door.

When you reach out, I’ll work with you, asking you questions about your family’s routines and favorite activities to decide when and where to do our session. Every session is different because every family is different. I’ve been there for Saturday morning pancake making and Thursday evenings at the playground. But the end goal is always the same: photos that feel like you and forever spark memories of what it was like to be a family, right now.

The Experience

“Gina was able to capture the most honest photos of the three of us I could ever imagine. Aside from a few more formal portraits, we just hung around with our kiddo, doing things we normally do, not thinking any of it was particularly out of the ordinary (ok, maybe our slightly nicer clothes were out of the ordinary). After the shoot, I worried that we hadn’t done anything special. We just, kind of, did normal stuff. I thought we might just get back some nice staged photos of us smiling at the camera.

Boy was I wrong.

When I saw the photos from Gina (way ahead of her given timeline, I might add) I was blown away. I actually started tearing up at a few of them. She was able to capture such joy, such love, such hope in our short session of normalcy. I don’t know how she did it, but it felt like the photos I got back almost didn’t match the memory I had of the day. It is like Gina saw something that we didn’t. We saw an everyday occurrence. Gina saw just how extraordinary life becomes with a little one.

And now I have those incredible photos so I can be reminded just how important and magical and special all of those mundane moments can be.”

“Absolutely incredible. Tom and I love them, so much! Of course I cried. They are just beautiful and exactly what I wanted; a snapshot of our lives as it is. You are a wizard, and captured it all. Can’t thank you enough, but I’ll still try, so THANK YOU!!!”

“Gina did an incredible job photographing our family. My husband and I wanted lifestyle photos that captured our everyday life with our 8 month old and dog. She made us feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. She knew we wanted the photos in time for the holidays so completed them way ahead of schedule. The finished product is beautiful and we are thrilled to have photos we will cherish forever. Highly recommend her!”

The Collections

The structure of my family sessions is a bit different than my other packages because, over the years, I’ve found that the needs of my families are different than those of my other clients.

Up front, you will pay for a flat session fee. After that session, when your photos are ready for viewing, you and your family will have the opportunity to view them in the comfort of your own home via a custom slideshow. (Families really enjoy this part!)

From there, you will choose your exact collection package for purchase. I have a variety of collections that include a range of digital photo options, so you know the collection you’re choosing will include all your session favorites.

All collections also come with a print credit, which can be used towards frames, books, greeting cards, you name it. I want to do what I can to help families get those precious memories out of the hard drives and into their homes. This step may come last, but in my eyes, it’s the most important when it comes to getting the most out of your investment. Read more about it here.

Questions You May Have…

Though I’m sure we’ll cover lots of ground when we connect, here are a few answers to some questions you may have in the meantime.

I define documentary photography as an unstaged, hands-off approach that captures genuine, raw, and emotional moments as they naturally unfold. I focus on authentic storytelling and “in-between” moments, working discreetly to allow subjects to be themselves rather than directing or posing them.

How does your documentary photography background affect how you’ll photograph my family?

What will your goals be when photographing my family?

I have found that the most flattering photographs are the ones without any interference, performance or posing. By catching a genuine and emotional moment and using my experience and skills as a photographer, I am creating an artful image that highlights your beauty.

I completely understand and feel the same way when I’m on the other side of the camera. To put you at ease, I’ll share that my portfolio is made of individuals who felt the same way. I promise our time together will be comfortable and centered around your experience. I’ll help ensure you can forget about the camera, be present and not feel performative. When you don’t feel that you’re being photographed, you can’t hate it.

When do you step in while photographing?

Of course! I celebrate BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, neurodivergent and ALL individuals and couples from all cultures, beliefs and backgrounds. I am neurodivergent myself with a complex story that allows me to relate to others in a deep way. The human experience fascinates me and I’m very grateful that I can use my camera to show and record its complexity and beauty.

Absolutely! Though I’m based in Boston I regularly photograph throughout New England. I’m open to other regions/locations as well.

For session galleries, you can expect a turnaround time of 6 weeks or 8 weeks if you’d like a sneak peek 2 weeks after your session.

Best of Boston Family Photography of 2019

Evening walks to the playground. Baking cakes. Reading books. Snuggles in bed. All these things may seem so routine, maybe even a little mundane now, but they will prove to be precious in the future, not just to you, but to your children.
